The False Accusation

This morning David and I spent another morning with Dr. MW, who told us a little about her background in medicine (and how Texas Tech HSC has almost no psychiatrists on faculty b/c the head of the department was difficult to work with) before we went to K2. There, David received a phone call from Dr. R. I wondered why Dr. R would be looking for David, but when he said, "What?!" we knew it had to be bad. Apparently one of the nurses staying in my dorm saw a male walking out of the ladies' room at 6:00 a.m. this morning and immediately assumed it was a med student (how wrong is that?). Her allegations were ridiculous because David did not have a key to the girls' dorm (I only let him into the dorms once on Wednesday night so he could watch the news since the male dorms don't have a TV), and even more obvious, there is no reason he would be awake 6:00 a.m if we don't start work until 8:00 a.m. Fortunately Dr. R knew David and Kyle well enough to know that they couldn't have been in the dorms early this morning, but she had to check to be sure. Even still, David was very pissed at the nurse who accused him, and Dr. MW advised him to let it go. "Many nurses have borderline personalities," she said, then told us a story of how one of her former nurses practically threw herself at one of the psych techs but later accused him of assault when he returned her advances. So she can make the first move, and not him? Ridiculous.

Other than that, we saw a few patients today who had not been seen when we had treatment team. There was one young guy in the living area who had his arm in a sling; he had a humeral fracture that only could have happened if someone pulled his arm roughly behind his back. The patient suspected of doing it has been sent to the behavioral ward, thank goodness. The last guy we saw was brought here b/c he was picked up by cops for being confrontational, but the only thing wrong with him was a history of alcoholism. That's no reason for him to be admitted to a state psychiatric hospital, so Dr. MW discharged him. Sheesh, talk about jumping the gun.
